New greater visakha is also named  as Vizag, and the second largest City in AndhraPradesh . It is also the third largest sea port City on  east coast of  India. Vizag is a port city situated in the southern side of the India and is in the middle of Chennai and Calcutta. Visakha has only the Natural Harbour in India. The Dolphin hill in the sea at visakha,with its long narrow area that goes out in to the sea will serve as natural protector to the city from natural calamities.

Finally the visakha municipality has been converted in to VISAKHA MUNICIPAL CORPORATION in the year 1979.
with the merger of Gajuwaka municipality and Narsipatnam municipality along with 32 villages in to visakha municipal corporation, the visakha municipal corporation has become Greater visakha municipal corporation (GVMC) which came in to existance in the year 2005.
The Government of Andhra pradesh has passed orders for merging adjacent municipalities namely Bheemily municipality 

and Anakaplli municipality and 10 gram panchayats with the New Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation in the year 2013.

 The New greater visakha municipal corporation HAS MAJOR INDUSTRIAL BASE having Rashtreeya Ispath Nigam LTD(Rinl), 

popularly known asVisakha steel plant,Bharat heavy plates and vessels and Hindusthan Zinc.

 Bavikonda  is one of the important  and historic places in Visakhapatnam which is famous from Buddhist heritage . the Telugu meaning  of Bavikonda is " A HILL OF WELLS" .  Railway line  Started on October 1894 in  Vizag which is administered by East coast railways of Indian Railways .
